Mumbai-Hyderabad Bullet Train: DPR Complete, Travel Time to Drop to 3.5 Hours
Mumbai-Hyderabad Bullet Train DPR Complete, Travel Time 3.5 Hours

India's ambitious high-speed rail network is set to bring Mumbai and Hyderabad much closer together. In a recent development, the proposed Mumbai-Pune-Hyderabad Bullet Train Corridor has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of its Detailed Project Report (DPR). If approved, this corridor could slash travel time between the two major cities to approximately 3 to 3.5 hours, a dramatic reduction from the current 12-15 hours taken by conventional trains.

DPR Completed for 671-km Corridor

According to official reports, the DPR for the 671-kilometer high-speed rail corridor has been finalized. The route connecting Mumbai and Hyderabad via Pune and Solapur is now fully mapped. Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has directed officials to expedite the next stages of the project. While construction has not yet begun, the completion of the DPR is a crucial step, as it finalizes engineering requirements, station locations, and cost estimates.

Proposed Route and Stations

The bullet train is expected to connect Mumbai and Hyderabad with stops at multiple cities. Proposed stations include:

  • Pandharpur
  • Solapur
  • Kalaburagi (Gulbarga)
  • Zaheerabad
  • Hyderabad

The final list of stations is subject to change. Once operational, the travel time between Mumbai and Hyderabad could be reduced to 3-4 hours, reshaping mobility patterns across western and southern India.

What It Means for Travelers

For commuters, the proposed bullet train offers a much-needed alternative to both flights and long-distance train journeys. The corridor will not only connect Mumbai and Hyderabad but also improve accessibility to major urban centers in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana. This project is part of India's broader vision to expand high-speed rail connectivity, following the flagship Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, which is currently under construction by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

Although construction timelines have not been announced, the finalization of the DPR signals that another high-speed rail project is moving beyond the conceptual stage. Sources include NHSRCL, Telangana Government statements, Ministry of Railways updates, and recent infrastructure reports.
