GMDA road in Gurgaon develops cracks within 6 months of revamp
Gurgaon road cracks within 6 months of Rs 11.8 cr revamp

A road stretch in Gurgaon, connecting Upper Dwarka Expressway with Dwarka Expressway, has developed cracks and potholes within just six months of its redevelopment. The 1.3-kilometer road between sectors 102 and 102A was revamped by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) from February 2024 to October last year at a cost of Rs 11.8 crore. The project included reconstruction of the main carriageway, surface drains, and footpaths.

Residents raise concerns over quality

Residents have expressed dismay over the rapid deterioration of the road. Ashok Sharma, a resident of Joyville, said, 'This is the master road and was constructed only a few months ago. However, it is already developing potholes, and its top layer has started coming off. This shows that the quality of construction was not up to the mark.'

The stretch serves as a vital link for thousands of families living in societies along both sides of the road. With increasing traffic volume in the area, commuters fear the condition may worsen further during the monsoon if timely repairs are not carried out.

Gursimron Aurora, a resident of Adani Oyster in Sector 102, highlighted the risks: 'Potholes have already developed near the underpass. This poses a serious risk to commuters. Despite complaints by residents, only temporary repairs were made by the authorities. The situation is likely to worsen further with the coming of the monsoon.'

GMDA cites external factors

A senior GMDA official acknowledged the issue but attributed the damage to external factors. 'We have received complaints about damage on the road. As per the initial assessment, the damage is largely due to external factors. There were leakages in internal water pipelines of nearby societies. We have told the society managements concerned to rectify the issue. Discharge of sewage water being dumped in the areas was also reported. The contractor responsible for the revamp has been asked to carry out repairs. Work will be carried out once weather conditions are suitable,' the official said.
