The company's Chief of Applications, Fidji Simo, detailed this strategic vision, reinforcing the idea that ChatGPT is evolving into an 'everything app' designed to integrate deeply into users' daily routines and professional workflows.
From Chatbot to Proactive Partner
In a detailed Substack post published on Monday, January 5, Fidji Simo outlined the future trajectory for ChatGPT. She stated that by 2026, ChatGPT will evolve into a "true personal super-assistant" that goes beyond providing advice and answers. The goal is to create an AI that understands individual user goals, retains context over extended periods, and proactively assists in making progress on important tasks.
"It will help you get things done," Simo emphasized, marking a shift from reactive interaction to proactive management. This development addresses what OpenAI identifies as a "capability overhang" – the gap between the AI's raw potential and its practical, everyday usefulness for consumers and businesses.
Doubling Down on Products and Collaboration
The roadmap for the coming year is equally aggressive. Simo confirmed that OpenAI will continue to launch more products powered by its GPT technology. The team will also focus on enhancing products introduced in 2025, such as ChatGPT Pulse and the ChatGPT App Store. A significant area of investment will be collaboration features, including group messaging capabilities, designed to enable "multi-player workflows" where users can plan and create together seamlessly.
