In a late-night operation at Ujjain railway station, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Madhya Pradesh unit, seized 1.067 kilograms of heroin and arrested one person involved in its trafficking. The operation was conducted based on intelligence inputs from the CBN Neemuch office, which indicated that a suspect would be transporting approximately one kilogram of illicit heroin through the Shipra Express (Train No. 22911) towards West Bengal.
Joint Operation and Interception
A joint preventive team comprising officers from the Neemuch, Ujjain, and Indore offices of the CBN was constituted and strategically deployed at Ujjain railway station. Acting on the specific inputs, the team identified and intercepted a suspect traveling in the general coach of the train carrying a handbag. The individual was escorted to the office of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on platform number 1, where a thorough search was conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Recovery of Contraband
During the search, officers recovered 1.067 kilograms of heroin concealed in two packets inside the handbag carried by the accused. The contraband was carefully hidden to avoid detection. Preliminary investigation revealed that the heroin was being illicitly trafficked from the Pratapgarh area of Rajasthan to Howrah, West Bengal, via the Indore–Ujjain route.
Arrest and Legal Action
The accused was arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigations are underway to trace the source and network involved in the trafficking operation. The CBN has emphasized its commitment to curbing drug trafficking in the region and has urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics.
