Lisa Jackson has officially retired from Apple after thirteen years of service. She served as the company's Vice President for Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives. Apple removed her name from its leadership page on January 16, according to a report by MacRumors.
End of a Significant Era
Apple announced Jackson's retirement last month. She joined the tech giant in 2013. During her tenure, she led Apple's renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. Jackson reported directly to CEO Tim Cook throughout her time at the company.
Jackson's Statement on Her Departure
In December 2025, Jackson released a statement about her retirement. She called Apple a "remarkable company" and said it was a "true honor" to lead important work there. Jackson expressed gratitude for working with leaders who understood that reducing environmental impact benefits both the planet and business.
"I have been lucky to work with leaders who understand that reducing our environmental impact is not just good for the environment, but good for business," Jackson stated. She added that she felt "incredibly grateful" to the teams she led at Apple for their innovations and global advocacy efforts.
Tim Cook Praises Jackson's Contributions
Apple CEO Tim Cook shared his appreciation for Jackson's work. He said she played an instrumental role in helping Apple reduce its global greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60 percent compared to 2015 levels.
Cook described Jackson as a "critical strategic partner" in engaging governments worldwide. She advocated for user interests on numerous topics and advanced Apple's values in areas like education, accessibility, privacy, and security.
Restructuring After Jackson's Departure
Apple has already implemented changes following Jackson's retirement. The Environment and Social Initiatives teams will now report to Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan. The Government Affairs team will have temporary oversight before transitioning to new leadership.
Initially, General Counsel Kate Adams will oversee Government Affairs. Adams plans to retire in March 2026. After her departure, Jennifer Newstead will take over as senior vice president, General Counsel and Government Affairs.
Jackson's retirement concludes a significant chapter in Apple's environmental and social initiatives. Her leadership helped shape the company's sustainability policies and global advocacy efforts for over a decade.
