Tragic Drowning Incident in South Delhi Farmhouse Construction Site
In a heartbreaking incident in south Delhi's Fatehpur Beri, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy lost his life after drowning in a swimming pool at an under-construction farmhouse. The police have taken swift action, arresting the contractor and filing a case of causing death by negligence. This tragic event has raised serious concerns about safety protocols at construction sites, especially those involving vulnerable children.
Details of the Fateful Evening
The incident occurred on April 8 around 6:15 pm. The young child, whose parents are laborers employed at the construction site, is believed to have wandered into the area while playing. According to police reports, he accidentally fell into the pool, which was still under construction, and drowned. The family had been residing at the site for the past three months after relocating from Bhagalpur, Bihar, in search of employment opportunities. Both parents were working as laborers on the same plot where the farmhouse is being built, highlighting the precarious living conditions faced by migrant workers.
Immediate Response and Investigation Findings
After the accident, the child was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Investigators are currently examining whether adequate safety measures were in place around the pool. Preliminary findings indicate that the area was not properly secured, with no barriers or safeguards preventing the toddler from accessing the hazardous construction zone. This lack of protection has been cited as a critical factor in the tragedy.
Legal Actions and Contractor Accountability
In response to the negligence, police arrested the contractor, identified as Raj Karan, and registered a case under sections related to causing death due to negligence. This arrest underscores the legal responsibilities of contractors to ensure safety at construction sites, particularly when children are present. Authorities are emphasizing the need for stricter enforcement of safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The community and officials are calling for increased vigilance and improved safety standards to protect vulnerable individuals, especially in high-risk environments like construction areas.
