Apple has announced a major upgrade to its Apple Intelligence platform, introducing a smarter Siri, AI-powered photo editing capabilities, and new Safari tools. The update, unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, marks a significant leap forward in Apple's artificial intelligence efforts.
Smarter Siri with Contextual Awareness
The new Siri is more intelligent and contextually aware, allowing users to have more natural conversations. Siri can now understand multiple requests in a single query, remember previous interactions, and perform complex tasks across apps. For example, users can ask Siri to "find the email from John about the project and reply saying I'll be late" and Siri will execute both actions seamlessly.
On-Device Processing for Privacy
Apple emphasizes that Siri's improvements are powered by on-device processing, ensuring user privacy. The new Siri can also control third-party apps, expanding its utility beyond Apple's native applications.
AI Photo Editing with 'Clean Up' Tool
The Photos app gains a new AI feature called 'Clean Up', which can remove unwanted objects or people from images. Similar to Google's Magic Eraser, Clean Up uses machine learning to fill in the background seamlessly. Users can also adjust lighting, color, and composition with a single tap using 'Smart Enhance'.
Advanced Search and Memories
AI-powered search in Photos allows users to find images using natural language queries, such as "dog on a beach at sunset." The Memories feature can automatically create highlight reels from events, complete with music and transitions.
New Safari Tools: AI Summaries and Smart Search
Safari receives intelligent new tools including 'AI Summaries', which can condense web pages or articles into key points. 'Smart Search' uses machine learning to deliver more relevant results, and 'Privacy Report' now includes AI-driven tracking prevention.
Reading Mode Enhancements
Reading Mode now offers a 'Simplify' option that removes clutter and presents a clean, easy-to-read version of any webpage. Safari also gains a 'Translation' feature that can translate entire pages in real-time.
Availability and Compatibility
The Apple Intelligence upgrade will be available as a free update for iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices later this year. Compatible devices include iPhone 15 Pro and later, iPad with M1 chip or later, and Mac with M1 chip or later. Developers can access beta versions starting today.
Apple Intelligence represents Apple's commitment to integrating AI deeply into its ecosystem while maintaining user privacy and security. With these new features, Apple aims to provide a more intuitive and powerful user experience across all its devices.
