AKTU to Train Students in Kung Fu and Tai Chi

Lucknow: Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has announced a new initiative to train its students in the Chinese martial arts of kung fu and tai chi as part of its self-defence programme. The university will collaborate with the Kung Fu Federation of India and the Uttar Pradesh Kung Fu Association to provide expert training in these disciplines.

Benefits of Kung Fu and Tai Chi

According to AKTU officials, incorporating kung fu and tai chi into the curriculum will help students develop into disciplined athletes, healthy citizens, and contributors to a stronger nation. An AKTU official stated, "Kung fu is a martial art rooted in India's ancient self-defence discipline, kalaripayattu, as well as in spirituality and Ashtanga Yoga. It is one of the world's oldest and most popular self-defence disciplines. It is relatively easy to learn and the risk of injury in competitions is minimal. Regular practice of this art not only improves concentration but also helps in the management and treatment of various ailments."

Training and Competitions

The official further explained that learning this art is essential, and the university will soon begin training students in these sports. Over time, trained students will be able to participate in various national and international competitions, bringing glory to Uttar Pradesh at both the national and global levels. This initiative also supports the government's Fit India mission, promoting fitness and well-being among the youth.
