AI Complements, Not Replaces Human Intelligence: Governor

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S Abdul Nazeer, who also serves as the Chancellor of Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, addressed the 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies of the university held in Vijayawada on Tuesday. He emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) will only complement human intelligence and can never substitute it. The governor called upon graduating doctors to serve patients with compassion, act with integrity, and make a positive difference in the lives of others through their noble profession.

Healthcare: Where Science Meets Humanity

Addressing the students, Nazeer reminded them that healthcare is a profession where science meets humanity. He stated that every patient entrusts healthcare providers with something precious: their health, dignity, and hope. Such trust, he observed, is sacred and must be honored through competence, compassion, and ethical conduct.

“The true measure of success is not merely professional achievement but the compassion with which you serve, the integrity with which you act and the positive difference you make in the lives of others,” he said.

Challenges and Innovations in Healthcare

Referring to rapid developments in medical science, the governor noted that while advances in healthcare create extraordinary opportunities, significant challenges such as emerging diseases, healthcare inequalities, and the growing burden of chronic illnesses continue to demand innovative solutions and sustained commitment. In this context, he welcomed the state government’s initiative to establish the Disease Modelling and Decision Intelligence Centre (DMDC) under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) at Dr NTR University of Health Sciences.

Dr C Narasimhan, Director of Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology Services at AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, participated as the chief guest. He urged graduating healthcare professionals to embrace rapid advancements in AI, precision medicine, and digital health while preserving the core values of empathy, compassion, and human connection in medical practice.

The university conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree to Dr C Narasimhan for the 29th convocation.
