Two Minor Boys Detained for Weapon Reels in Trichy

Trichy: Two minor boys were detained near Trichy on Sunday for filming videos with weapons and uploading them as reels. The boys were made to apologize in a new reel and released with a firm warning.

Incident Details

According to police, the boys, who hail from Lalgudi in Trichy district and are aged 17 and 14, are studying in Class 11 and Class 9 respectively. On Saturday, the duo filmed videos holding weapons near their houses and uploaded them on Instagram.

Police Action

The reels went viral and were eventually brought to the attention of the Trichy district police. Acting on the instructions of superintendent of police S Selvanagarathinam, personnel traced the boys' addresses and apprehended them. They were then taken to Lalgudi police station.

The two boys were reprimanded for their actions and warned about the serious implications. Since both were underage, police did not register any formal cases against them. However, they were advised not to repeat such behaviour.

Apology and Awareness

The boys were then made to apologize on camera. The videos were shared as blurred reels on Instagram through the official account of the Trichy district police, on Monday.

The boys are seen appealing to the public not to create or share such posts on social media. SP Selvanagarathinam urged public to inform if they come across such posts.
