A 43-year-old native of Ernakulam, identified as Hassan Umar, was arrested near Kangarappadi on Friday after being found in possession of 33.15 grams of MDMA. The seizure was part of a joint inspection conducted by the police, excise department, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the dog squad, targeting drug trafficking in the region.
Joint Operation Details
Officials revealed that specific locations suspected of storing drugs for distribution were identified prior to the raid. The operation was carried out to prevent drug use and sales in the city. The raid was led by Kochi City Police Commissioner Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar, along with Deputy Commissioners of Police Ashwathi Jiji and Shahanshah, Narcotics Cell ACP T D Sunilkumar, NCB Zonal Director Venugopal, NCB Assistant Director Appukuttan, NCB Inspectors Maneesh Modi and Shaiju, Excise Assistant Commissioner Joby, and other officers.
Previous Drug Seizure in Angamaly
On Tuesday, the Ernakulam rural police seized 609 grams of heroin in Angamaly. The contraband was valued at nearly Rs 1 crore. This highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Authorities have intensified surveillance and raids across the city to curb the illegal drug trade. The arrested individual, Hassan Umar, is currently in custody and further investigations are underway to trace the network behind the MDMA supply.
