Bengaluru: Karnataka students registered a pass percentage of 99.77% in Class X and 99.96% for Class XII under the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, whose results were announced Thursday morning.
In Karnataka, 31,018 students from 454 schools appeared for Class X exam (ICSE), and 2,673 students from 67 schools appeared for Class XII exam (ISC). The pass percentage of Class XII improved compared with last year, while it remained the same for Class X. Karnataka students outperformed the national average. Across India, the pass percentage for ICSE was 99.18% and for ISC was 99.13%.
Schools point out that despite the council introducing critical-thinking questions in exams this time, the students have managed to perform well. Angelina Wilson, principal, St John's High School, Promenade Road, said: "Despite the big changes and introducing analytical and concept-based questions, our students fared well. Till the recent past, there was a lot of emphasis on rote learning that has changed this year." "Our students did well in English, history and civics. But in ISC, commerce subjects saw a fall," she added.
Jean George of MG School for Excellence said: "Overall, the results have been better than last year, English has been universally good, with many centums. In ICSE, while students scored well in geography, many lost out in history. Sciences were, on the other hand, good." "In ISC, the biology paper was tough, but the scoring was good. In commerce, many students did not secure as much in accountancy and economics. Overall, students are happy. Very few are applying for recheck," she added.
