Infosys to Build 7,000-Seat Campus in Visakhapatnam

Infosys, a leading IT services company, is set to significantly expand its operations in Visakhapatnam by establishing a permanent campus with a seating capacity of 7,000. The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated 20 acres of land for the new facility, which is currently under construction.

Workforce Growth and Local Hiring

Over the past two years, Infosys has rapidly increased its workforce in Vizag from approximately 250 employees in early 2024 to nearly 1,900 at present. An additional 750 seats are expected to become operational shortly, further boosting employment. The proposed 20-acre campus is part of the company's long-term expansion strategy in the city, according to sources familiar with the plans.

The Vizag facility has heavily drawn from the local talent pool, recruiting over 1,000 fresh graduates and around 500 lateral hires from the region. This expansion underscores the availability of skilled manpower in and around Visakhapatnam and the alignment of local education and skilling initiatives with industry requirements.

Government Support and Policy Framework

The state government has facilitated Infosys's expansion through its IT and GCC (Global Capability Centers) and LIFT (Land, Infrastructure, and Fiscal) policies, along with industry-academia collaboration and infrastructure support. Officials stated that the focus has been on enabling companies to scale operations smoothly while retaining talent within the state.

Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics, and Education, remarked that Infosys's growth in Vizag indicates increased opportunities for local youth to build careers within Andhra Pradesh. He emphasized that the government's approach is centered on creating a talent-based ecosystem through coordination among industry, academia, and the administration.

Long-Term Presence and Industry Interest

With Infosys outlining a long-term presence in Vizag, the city continues to see heightened interest from technology firms looking to expand operations outside traditional IT hubs, said Lokesh. This development is expected to bolster the region's reputation as an emerging IT destination.
