Gujarat University Online Enrolment Surges 128%

The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) at Gujarat University (GU) has experienced a remarkable increase in student enrolments for its undergraduate and postgraduate online programmes for the academic year 2026–27. These programmes, designed in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), are making higher education more flexible, accessible, and learner-centric, according to experts.

Growing Appeal Among Diverse Learners

The courses have attracted a wide range of students, including working professionals, candidates preparing for competitive exams, and individuals pursuing dual degrees. The convenience of studying from home, combined with an industry-oriented curriculum, has fueled the rising demand.

Enrolment Statistics: A Comparative Analysis

Official admission figures reveal a significant jump in student interest. During the August 2025 session, 450 students registered for various programmes. Of these, 252 completed the final submission stage, 180 received university approval, and 154 students eventually confirmed their admissions.

The response surged dramatically in the February 2026 session. A total of 3,101 students registered, including 2,993 Indian candidates and 108 international applicants. Among them, 447 candidates completed final submissions, 440 were approved, and 343 students ultimately secured admissions—comprising 341 Indian and 2 international students.

Course-Wise Growth

Course-specific figures highlight growing interest across streams. In August 2025, admissions included 37 students in BA (English), 23 in BCom, 23 in BCA, 21 in MA (English), 33 in MCom, and 17 in MSc (Mathematics). By February 2026, these numbers rose to 68, 73, 59, 56, 61, and 26 respectively, bringing the total confirmed admissions to 343.

Global Reach and Future Plans

The participation of international applicants underscores the expanding global footprint of Gujarat University's online education initiatives. University officials have stated that efforts will continue to enhance technology-driven, industry-relevant programmes aligned with global academic standards, further strengthening its worldwide academic presence.
