Gaya Airport Connectivity: Minister Refers Demand to Airlines
Gaya Airport: Minister Refers Demand to Airlines

Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu has forwarded the demand of Aurangabad MP Abhay Kushwaha for expanding air connectivity from Gaya International Airport to Air India and Indigo airlines. The MP had requested the introduction of direct air services to Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad from Gaya, citing that a large number of people from the Magadh region travel to these cities for business, education, and employment.

Minister's Response

In response to the MP's demand, the Union Minister stated in a letter that the ministry has no role in the operational decisions of airline operators, as business viability is their primary concern. The letter noted that the operational aspects of airlines were deregulated in 1994, and since then, the government has ceased to play any role in such matters. However, the MP's request has been forwarded to the concerned airlines for positive consideration.

Recent Developments

According to Magadh Industries Association President Anup Kedia, Indigo had announced daily air service between Gaya and Mumbai a few months ago but later withdrew without providing any reason. There are also unconfirmed reports that Indigo may reduce the frequency of its Delhi-Gaya service. Currently, Indigo operates a daily flight between Gaya and Delhi, but from July onwards, the airline may operate only five days a week.

When asked about the possible change in Indigo's flight schedule from July, Gaya Airport officiating director Awadhesh Kumar said he had heard about it but had not received any official communication from Indigo. He added that only Indigo management can provide a definite response on the issue.
