Pune: Warje police have arrested four men, all residents of Warje and Shivane, for robbing a silver chain and forcing a 25-year-old man from Karvenagar to transfer Rs8,300 to their UPI app. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on April 28 on the service road of the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to the police, the victim works in the accounts department of a private company. He had created a profile on a dating app and befriended many people through it. One of the four arrested men had also downloaded the same dating app and used it to contact others.
Police said that the suspects befriended the Karvenagar resident, and they all decided to meet on the service road of the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass, near Dukkarkhind.
Attack and Robbery
The suspects beat the complainant with a stone, causing head injuries. They then threatened him with dire consequences, stole his silver chain, and forced him to transfer Rs8,300 to their UPI app.
Arrest
After recovering from his injuries, the complainant approached the police. Police studied the UPI transaction, which revealed the phone number of the suspects. Within hours, a police team arrested them.
