The Miami Dolphins made two significant trades during the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, acquiring additional picks and selecting two promising college football players. According to NFL Insider Mike Garafolo's report on X, the Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers exchanged picks: San Francisco received No. 30 and No. 90 overall, while Miami received No. 27 and No. 138 overall. In a separate trade with the Dallas Cowboys, the Dolphins sent pick No. 11 to Dallas and received picks No. 12, No. 177, and No. 180.
Dolphins Select Cornerback Chris Johnson at 27th Overall
With the 27th overall pick, acquired from the San Francisco 49ers, the Miami Dolphins drafted cornerback Chris Johnson from San Diego State University. Johnson, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 193 pounds, played four seasons for the Aztecs from 2022 to 2025. In the 2025 season, he earned an impressive 91.6 overall grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF), ranking second among 897 qualified cornerbacks. His coverage grade of 92.4 placed him third among all cornerbacks, while his run-defense grade of 67.1 ranked 481st.
During the 2025 season, Johnson recorded 49 tackles, nine pass breakups, four interceptions (including two returned for touchdowns), and three tackles for loss. His strengths include controlled and confident coverage movement, clean and natural footwork in transitions and recovery, tracking throws to make plays on the ball, and aggressive punches when attacking blockers. However, his weaknesses include average recovery speed when beaten, vulnerability to big running backs dragging him for extra yardage, and difficulty battling big-bodied receivers on jump balls.
Dolphins Select Offensive Tackle Kadyn Proctor at 12th Overall
With the 12th overall pick, acquired from the Dallas Cowboys, the Miami Dolphins selected offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor from the University of Alabama. Proctor, who measures 6 feet 7 inches and weighs 352 pounds, played three seasons for the Crimson Tide from 2023 to 2025. In the 2025 season, he earned an 85.4 overall PFF grade, ranking ninth among 632 qualified offensive tackles. He played 878 offensive snaps and allowed 19 total pressures in pass protection, including two sacks and four hits. His pass-blocking grade of 81.8 ranked 32nd among offensive tackles, while his run-blocking grade of 81.6 ranked 15th.
Proctor's strengths include overwhelming size and strength, battle-tested experience in the SEC from start to finish, ability to envelop second-level defenders, and the capacity to become a runaway train without requiring much momentum. His weaknesses include shortcomings in lateral movement, vulnerability to inside counters, moderate recovery ability, and a lack of physical dominance in pass protection.
