Dewas Blast Death Toll Reaches Eight

Indore: Two more workers injured in the May 14 firecracker factory blast in Dewas district’s Tonk Kalan area died during treatment at Indore’s MY Hospital early on Saturday, taking the death toll in the tragedy to eight.

Details of the Fatalities

Hospital superintendent Ashok Yadav confirmed that Ajay Kumar and Niranjan succumbed to their injuries on Saturday morning. Ajay Kumar, 27, son of Nunu Paswan and a resident of Bhawanipur village in Bihar’s Araria district, had sustained severe burn injuries in the blast. He was initially admitted to the district hospital in Dewas before being referred to MY Hospital. Similarly, Niranjan, 30, son of Hiralal and a resident of Purniya village in Dewas district, also died from burn injuries during treatment at MY Hospital early on Saturday.

Condition of Other Victims

Of the four victims of the Dewas blast who were admitted to MY Hospital, only one remains alive. While Ram succumbed on Monday, Ajay and Niranjan died on Saturday. Doctors stated that both had critical burn injuries, with over 80% of their bodies burned, leaving limited chances of recovery despite intensive care.

The survivor, Vishal, 25, was brought to the neurosurgery department a day after the blast after complaining of vomiting and dizziness. Doctors have been closely monitoring his condition and expect him to be discharged soon.

Investigation Continues

Investigations into the incident are ongoing. Authorities are looking into the cause of the blast and safety violations at the factory.
