A 23-year-old BTech student from Aligarh ended his life in his hostel room in Gorakhpur’s Ramgarhtal area, leaving behind a note in which he apologised to his parents for failing to meet their expectations. The third-year BTech student of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University was residing alone at a private Boys Hostel in the Indiranagar locality under the Ramgarhtal police station limits.
Incident Details
According to police, when the student did not step out of his room until Thursday morning, the hostel warden tried to contact him but received no response. The warden then informed Ramgarhtal police. Officers broke open the room door and found the student’s body hanging from the ceiling. A forensic team arrived at the scene and conducted an investigation before the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Suicide Note
Police recovered a one-page suicide note from the room. In it, the student wrote: “I could neither become a good son nor a good student. Mom and Dad, please forgive me. I could not live up to your expectations. I will return as your son in our next birth and fulfil your dreams.” The note reflected his deep remorse and sense of failure.
Ramgarhtal Station House Officer (SHO) Atul Srivastava confirmed that the student’s family in Aligarh had been informed about the incident. The police are investigating the circumstances that led to the extreme step.
This tragic event highlights the immense pressure students often face to meet academic and familial expectations. Experts urge parents and educators to be vigilant about mental health issues and to provide emotional support to students.
