Mumbai: In the aftermath of the recent Dadar bus crash, BEST General Manager Sonia Sethi has issued a directive on Wednesday mandating a three-day crash-prevention training program for all contract bus drivers. The move aims to enhance road safety and prevent future incidents.
Enhanced Inspection Measures
Under the new guidelines, depot officers will be required to inspect wet lease buses at least twice a month. Additionally, a joint inspection of buses will be conducted on route by bus crew members. Engineering depot officers will visit bus terminals to check parked buses for any technical deficiencies. Early morning snap checks of buses will also be carried out by these officers.
Driver Guidance and Training
Special meetings will be conducted for all bus drivers to provide guidance on safe and cautious driving practices. Refresher training will be imparted to drivers focusing on speed control, maintaining vigilance at intersections, passenger safety, and handling emergency situations. The work performance of drivers involved in accidents will be reviewed, and necessary counseling will be provided.
Monitoring Driving Habits
Bus inspectors in plain clothes will check for irregularities in driving habits such as lane cutting, dangerous overtaking, and speaking on mobile phones while driving. These measures are part of a comprehensive effort to improve driver behavior and ensure passenger safety.
The initiative reflects BEST's commitment to preventing accidents and enhancing the overall safety of Mumbai's public transport system.
