Amazon Accelerates Delivery with New 1-Hour and 3-Hour Options Across US

In a strategic move to enhance customer convenience and intensify competition with rivals like Walmart, Amazon has announced the expansion of its quick delivery services. The e-commerce giant is rolling out new 1-hour and 3-hour delivery options across several cities in the United States, offering access to a vast selection of over 90,000 items.

CEO Andy Jassy Announces Service Aimed at Everyday Needs

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy took to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) to unveil this initiative, emphasizing its focus on addressing common customer challenges. In his post, Jassy highlighted scenarios such as missing ingredients before a dinner party, packing school lunches, or needing last-minute electronics like headphones for travel. He stated that teams across Amazon have been diligently working to enable faster access to products, culminating in this launch.

Jassy wrote on X: "Everyone knows what it’s like to scramble to get something done. Missing ingredients before people come over for dinner. Packing school lunches for the morning. Needing new headphones for tomorrow’s flight. Teams across Amazon have been working to solve those problems, and today we're introducing 1-hour and 3-hour delivery options on over 90,000 products—everything from paper towels and cleaning supplies to electronics."

How the Fast-Delivery Service Works for US Customers

The new delivery options are integrated into Amazon's existing Same-Day shopping experience. Customers will see eligible items marked with labels indicating "in 1 hour" or "in 3 hour" next to product names. To streamline the shopping process, Amazon has introduced dedicated search filters and a storefront page in regions where these services are available.

The rollout includes:

  • 1-Hour Delivery: Available in hundreds of cities and towns, including major hubs like Los Angeles, Chicago, Oklahoma City, Nashville, Houston, and Washington, D.C., as well as smaller locations such as Des Moines, Boise, and American Fork.
  • 3-Hour Delivery: Accessible in over 2,000 locations, covering big cities, mid-sized towns, small towns, and suburbs like Cornwall, Harrah, and Arabi.

These services operate seven days a week, with plans to expand to more areas in the future. Customers can check availability in their region via the "Get It Fast" section on Amazon's website.

Delivery Costs and Prime Member Benefits

Amazon has structured the delivery fees to offer advantages for Prime members:

  1. Prime Members: Pay $9.99 for 1-hour delivery and $4.99 for 3-hour delivery. They also retain access to Same-Day Delivery at no extra cost.
  2. Non-Prime Members: Incur higher fees of $19.99 for 1-hour delivery and $14.99 for 3-hour delivery.

This pricing strategy underscores Amazon's commitment to rewarding its subscription base while expanding fast-delivery capabilities to a broader audience. The initiative is poised to significantly impact the retail landscape, as Amazon continues to innovate in logistics and customer service.
