Sabalenka Seeks Revenge vs Kyrgios, Proposes New Format After Dubai Loss
Sabalenka wants rematch with Kyrgios, suggests rule changes

World number one Aryna Sabalenka has thrown down the gauntlet, expressing a strong desire for a second shot at Australian star Nick Kyrgios. This comes after her defeat in their much-hyped 'Battle of the Sexes' exhibition match held in Dubai.

The High-Profile Dubai Exhibition

The high-stakes clash took place on Sunday in Dubai, where Kyrgios emerged victorious with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3. The match generated significant buzz for its intense and entertaining nature. However, it was played under unique, modified conditions designed to level the playing field. The court size was reduced by nine per cent to account for differences in movement and speed between male and female athletes.

Sabalenka's Call for a Fairer Rematch

Ahead of her title defence at the Brisbane International, the Belarusian powerhouse reflected on the experience. She admitted she would approach a potential rematch with a different strategy, particularly concerning the match format. Sabalenka revealed she was caught off-guard by the need to adjust her game during the first encounter.

"I think I would definitely do it again. I love revenge, and I don't like to leave it the way it is," Sabalenka stated confidently. She proposed specific changes for a future matchup: "I think for the next match we will come up with a different format... I think I would keep the full court, but I would take two serves. That would even our level a lot more."

Learning from Defeat and Eyeing Revenge

Despite the loss, Sabalenka highlighted the valuable insights gained from facing Kyrgios. She believes the experience has equipped her better for a potential second meeting. "I always say that when you are losing, you are learning and I learned a lot about his game," she explained. "I know Nick as a player and a person better and I feel I know how to play against him. I would do it again. I need revenge."

She also took pride in the challenge she posed to Kyrgios, both physically and mentally. Sabalenka described the match as a "really cool experience" and expressed satisfaction at testing his limits. "I am happy that I was able to challenge him, make him work and make him physically get tired and mentally get tired," she said. The world number one concluded by wishing Kyrgios well for his upcoming tournaments in Brisbane and at the Australian Open.
