Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed right-arm pacer RS Ambrish as a replacement for the injured Shivam Mavi for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The franchise announced the development on Thursday, confirming that Mavi has been ruled out due to a recurring back injury.
Player Profile and Background
RS Ambrish, a 24-year-old fast bowler from Tamil Nadu, brings a wealth of domestic experience to the SRH squad. He has played 12 first-class matches, picking up 38 wickets at an average of 27.63. In List A cricket, he has claimed 16 wickets in 12 games, while in T20s, he has taken 15 wickets in 13 matches. Ambrish is known for his ability to generate bounce and movement off the pitch, making him a valuable asset in the shortest format.
Injury Setback for Shivam Mavi
Shivam Mavi, who was bought by SRH for INR 6.4 crore at the IPL 2024 auction, has been plagued by back issues. The pacer had earlier missed the 2023 season due to a stress fracture and has now been sidelined again. Mavi's absence is a blow to SRH's pace attack, but the team management is confident that Ambrish can fill the void effectively.
Team's Strategy and Expectations
SRH head coach Daniel Vettori expressed optimism about the new signing. "We are excited to have RS Ambrish on board. He has been impressive in domestic cricket and has the skills to succeed in the IPL. We believe he can contribute significantly to our campaign," Vettori said in a statement. The franchise is looking to strengthen its bowling department, which has been inconsistent in the ongoing season.
Ambrish will join the SRH camp immediately and is expected to be available for selection in their upcoming matches. The team currently occupies the fourth spot on the points table and is aiming for a strong finish to secure a playoff berth.
With the addition of Ambrish, SRH now have a fully strengthened squad for the remainder of the tournament. Fans will be eager to see how the young pacer performs on the big stage.
