IPL franchise Punjab Kings' co-owner Preity Zinta on Monday revealed why her team no longer features the silver colour in their jersey. The revelation came after a fan posted on X, replying to Zinta, saying, "Punjab should try to bring back its Red and silver jersey. Still remember Gilchrist taking his only wicket in that. Best jersey hands down."
BCCI Directive Behind the Change
Responding to the comment, Zinta confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) no longer permits teams to use white, grey, or silver in their playing kits. "Silver got banned by the BCCI cuz teams complained they could not see the white ball against the silver! I miss the silver too," Zinta said.
Punjab Kings, who previously sported a stylish red-and-grey combination, have since switched to a red-and-blue scheme, pairing a red shirt with blue bottoms. The change was implemented to comply with the BCCI's directive aimed at improving ball visibility.
PBKS' Impressive Run in IPL 2026
In the ongoing IPL 2026 season, Punjab Kings remain unbeaten so far, with six wins and one washed-out match in seven games. They currently top the points table with 13 points. The team will look to strengthen their hold at the top when they face Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Rajasthan Royals are placed fourth with 10 points from five wins in eight games.
Riyan Parag, the Rajasthan captain who has been short of runs, will need to lead from the front to challenge a formidable Punjab Kings side. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting, who took over last year, Punjab Kings have scripted a sensational turnaround, emerging as one of the most consistent and assured units in the competition—a transformation fans had longed for over the years.
