Punjab Kings assistant coach Brad Haddin lavished praise on skipper Shreyas Iyer after his match-winning knock against Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League 2025. Haddin revealed that Iyer was determined to be the one who made a difference in the crucial encounter.
Iyer's determination shines through
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Haddin said, "Shreyas wanted to be the one who made a difference. He took responsibility and played a captain's knock. That is exactly what we expect from our leader." Iyer scored a brilliant 78 off 42 balls, anchoring the chase and guiding PBKS to a comprehensive victory over LSG.
Haddin highlights Iyer's leadership
The assistant coach also emphasized Iyer's leadership qualities, noting that he led from the front both on and off the field. "He has been fantastic with his communication and tactical decisions. The team is responding well to his captaincy," Haddin added.
PBKS's win was crucial for their playoff hopes, and Haddin believes Iyer's knock will boost the team's confidence going forward. "We have a strong squad, and when our captain performs like that, it lifts everyone. It sends a message to the other teams that we are a force to be reckoned with," he said.
Iyer's innings included 7 fours and 4 sixes, with a strike rate of over 185. He was well supported by Jonny Bairstow, who scored a quickfire 45, and the duo put on a 112-run partnership for the second wicket.
With this victory, PBKS moved up to third place in the points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive. The team will look to carry this momentum into their next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
