The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted a training session at its headquarters on Thursday to educate bulk waste generators about the compulsory registration process on the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) portal. This initiative aligns with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and directives from the Supreme Court regarding waste management compliance.
Training Program Details
Representatives from 35 hospitals, hotels, and commercial establishments participated in the program. Experts from GIZ and the CPCB provided demonstrations, guiding attendees on navigating the centralized portal. Registration is mandatory for premises that generate 100 kg or more of waste daily, consume 40,000 liters of water per day, or have a built-up area of 20,000 square meters.
Registration and Compliance
Officials emphasized that registration is free but obligatory for all institutional, commercial, and residential bulk waste generators. After submission, municipal teams will verify details through on-site inspections.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
The PMC highlighted penalties for failing to register, including fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 per violation. Additional consequences may include suspension of waste collection services and legal action.
Current Status
So far, the civic body has identified 53 bulk waste generators. The survey will continue to ensure all eligible entities comply with the framework.
