Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has expressed his support for the team's transition phase despite their failure to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs. Reflecting on an inconsistent campaign, Fleming acknowledged the challenges posed by injuries, tactical struggles, and the emergence of new players.
Fleming on CSK's Inconsistent Campaign
Speaking after CSK's final league match, Fleming noted that the season was a learning curve for the franchise. "We had a mix of experienced players and youngsters, and the transition was always going to take time. Injuries to key players disrupted our plans, but I am proud of how the team fought," he said.
Ruturaj Gaikwad's Captaincy Growth
Fleming praised Ruturaj Gaikwad's leadership, stating that the young captain showed immense growth under pressure. "Ruturaj has taken responsibility and learned quickly. His tactical acumen and composure will serve CSK well in the future," Fleming added.
Positives to Carry Forward
Despite missing the playoffs, Fleming highlighted the positives, including the emergence of young talents like Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Matheesha Pathirana. "Our bowling unit showed promise, and the youngsters stepped up. We have a solid foundation for the next season," he concluded.
