AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Titans put on a flawless performance on Thursday, closing in on a top-two finish while ending Chennai Super Kings' IPL campaign for this season. The batting trio of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler set the platform, and Mohammed Siraj's devastating spell of 3-26 in his first over dismantled the CSK chase.
Mohammed Siraj's Early Strikes
Siraj moved the ball just enough and hit the hard length to remove Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Urvil Patel, leaving CSK in a deep hole while chasing 230. His spell effectively ended the contest early.
Shubman Gill's Explosive Fifty
Earlier, Gill showcased his class with a 64 off 37 balls, including seven fours and three sixes, after being asked to bat first. He started with a neat leg-glance off Mukesh Choudhary and dominated the Powerplay. In the next over from Spencer Johnson, a delivery down the leg side injured Sanju Samson's index finger, forcing a substitution behind the stumps. Gill lofted Anshul Kamboj for his first maximum and then hit Noor Ahmad for two sixes over deep mid-wicket to race to his half-century off 23 balls.
Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler Shine
After the Powerplay, left-arm pacer Gurjapneet Singh bowled tight overs, and Sudharsan struggled to accelerate, putting pressure on Gill, who eventually skied a length ball from Johnson in the 13th over. However, Buttler immediately took charge, hitting Noor Ahmad for two sixes in the 14th over. He and Sudharsan added 82 off 37 balls to sustain momentum from the 125-run opening stand.
Sudharsan scored 84 off 53 balls, while Buttler remained unbeaten on 57 off 27 deliveries. The Titans' total of 230 proved too much for CSK, who were bowled out early.
