In a significant development for Indian youth football, six players from Punjab FC have earned spots in the national under-20 squad for the upcoming SAFF Championship, currently being held in the Maldives. This remarkable representation underscores Punjab FC's position as one of the premier clubs for nurturing young football talent in the country.

- Karish Soram: A dependable defender who has previously represented India at youth levels and was instrumental in Punjab FC's AIFF U-17 Youth League victory.
- Usham Singh Thoungamba: Known for his versatility in defense, he played a crucial role in the club's U-17 title-winning campaign and has prior experience in national youth setups.
- Rishikanta Meitei Laishram: A composed and consistent midfielder who brings balance and stability to the center of the pitch.
- Aniket Yadav: The natural leader who captained Punjab FC's AIFF U-17 Youth League-winning side, serving as a driving force in midfield.

Tournament Schedule and Expectations
India will kick off their campaign on March 26 with a highly anticipated match against Pakistan, followed by a second group game against Bangladesh on March 28. The top two teams from the group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for April 1, with the finals set for April 3. India enters the tournament as defending champions, having won the previous SAFF Championship, which was an Under-19 event held last year in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh.
Recognition of Punjab FC's Youth Development
All six selected players were key members of the Punjab FC U-17 side that clinched the AIFF U-17 Youth League title, further validating the club's robust youth program. Giuseppe Cristaldi, Technical Director of the Punjab FC Youth Program, expressed immense pride in the selection, stating, "We are extremely proud to see six of our young players represent the national team at the SAFF U-20 Championship. This reflects the strength of our youth development pathway and the hard work put in by the players and coaching staff. We are confident they will make a strong impact and continue to grow at both domestic and international levels."
This selection not only highlights individual talent but also showcases Punjab FC's commitment to fostering future stars, setting a benchmark for youth development in Indian football. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on these young athletes as they aim to bring glory to the nation and further their careers on the global stage.
