Couto also mentioned that Kambli has quit drinking but occasionally smokes, a habit strictly forbidden by his doctor, neurosurgeon Aadil Chagla, due to the risk of a brain stroke.
In stark contrast, Kambli's wife, Andrea Hewitt, has firmly dismissed these claims, labeling them as false and accusing individuals of spreading misinformation about his health. She stated, "By God's grace, Vinod is fine. I don't know who is spreading false information about his health," in an interview with India Today. Her statement was a direct response to Couto's allegations, aiming to clarify the situation and reassure the public.

Despite the health rumors, Couto noted that Kambli appeared to be in decent health during their interactions, with his family in good spirits. Kambli now uses a walking stick for mobility. Additionally, his son, Cristiano, aspires to become a cricketer, and Couto has facilitated his enrollment at Jatin Paranjape's cricket academy, where no charges will be applied.
