Two days after captaining India to a historic victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav is still processing the immense significance of this achievement. This win places him in an elite group of Indian cricket captains, alongside legends such as Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma, all of whom have led the nation to prestigious ICC trophies.

Upon returning from Ahmedabad, where the Indian national cricket team secured a record third ICC Men's T20 World Cup title on Sunday, Suryakumar took time to reflect on the team's journey and its aspirations moving forward. In an interview with PTI Videos at his residence, he expressed his joy and pride in the back-to-back successes.
"It feels good to win in 2024 and 2026 consecutively. This is a very special feeling. When we triumphed in 2024, we immediately thought about how incredible it would be to repeat this feat at home in 2026," Suryakumar stated, highlighting the team's forward-looking mindset.
Future Ambitions: Olympic Gold and More Trophies
Looking ahead, Suryakumar outlined ambitious goals for the Indian cricket team. "The next target is to win the Olympic gold in 2028. The team currently has strong momentum, and if we can also secure the T20 World Cup in the same year, it would be absolutely fantastic," he emphasized, showcasing his determination to build on recent successes.
Joining an Elite Company of Captains
When asked about being compared to iconic captains like Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, Suryakumar shared his thoughts on this honor. "It feels good to join that elite company. I am gradually coming to terms with it. Being discussed among such great individuals is a very special feeling. I will strive to continue this legacy and help India win more trophies in the future," he added, acknowledging the weight of responsibility that comes with such comparisons.
Rohit Sharma recently led India to end a long ICC trophy drought with a victory in Bridgetown during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni's captaincy saw India achieve triumphs in the ICC World Twenty20 2007, the ICC ODI World Cup 2011, and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Before them, Kapil Dev made history by guiding India to its first major global title with the 1983 ODI World Cup win.
