Sreejith V Nair Elected KCA President, Unveils Major Kerala Cricket Development Plan
Sreejith V Nair Elected as New President of Kerala Cricket Association

The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has ushered in a new leadership team, with former treasurer and secretary Sreejith V Nair elected as its President. The election took place during the organization's landmark 75th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) held on Monday.

New Leadership Team Takes Charge

Sreejith V Nair takes over the reins from Jayesh George, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Women's Premier League (WPL). The AGM also saw the election of Satheesan K, a former Apex Council member, as the Vice President. The incumbent Secretary, Vinod S. Kumar, and Joint Secretary, Bineesh Kodiyeri, will continue in their respective roles.

In other key appointments, T. Ajith Kumar, Secretary of the Palakkad District Cricket Association, was elected as the new Treasurer. Muhammed Naufal T., Secretary of the Kasaragod District Cricket Association, was appointed as the General Body Representative to the Apex Council.

Ambitious One-Year Development Plan Approved

One of the first major decisions by the new office bearers was the approval of a comprehensive, one-year development blueprint. The plan is ambitious and aims at a statewide transformation of cricket infrastructure and player development systems.

The KCA stated that the plan focuses on upgrading cricket facilities in all 14 districts of Kerala to international standards. It will leverage the Kerala Sports Infrastructure Development Scheme and special concessions under the Land Act announced by the State Government.

"As part of the plan, cricket grounds and related facilities will be developed in all 14 districts of the state. Infrastructure for other sports will also be developed alongside cricket facilities, with the objective of ensuring uniform training standards and modern amenities across districts," the KCA said.

Major Projects on the Horizon

President Sreejith V Nair outlined several landmark initiatives. A key project is the aim to construct an international cricket stadium in Kochi in collaboration with the state government.

Furthermore, the association plans to hold discussions with the government for a long-term lease of the Sports Hub International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Another exciting proposal is the establishment of a High Altitude Sports Centre at Munnar for cricket, football, and other sports.

In a significant boost for women's cricket, the KCA announced it will shortly launch the Kerala Women's Premier League (KWPL). To nurture young talent, new academies will be set up in Idukki and Thiruvananthapuram. These academies will focus on scientific, performance-oriented training, emphasizing fitness, skill development, and modern coaching methods.

The association also resolved to further strengthen the existing High Performance Centre by ensuring advanced training facilities, sports science laboratories, and access to expert coaches. This holistic approach underscores KCA's commitment to raising the bar for cricket in Kerala across all levels.
