The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the India A squad for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka on Thursday, drawing widespread praise from the cricketing fraternity. Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka led the tributes for teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Badoni, both of whom earned their spots in the 15-member squad.
India A Squad for Tri-Series
The BCCI named Tilak Varma as captain of the squad for the one-day tri-series involving India A, Sri Lanka A, and Afghanistan A. The matches will be played in Dambulla, followed by two multi-day games against Sri Lanka A in Galle. The squad also includes Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Anshul Kamboj, highlighting the selectors' focus on nurturing young talent ahead of a busy international calendar.
Goenka's Praise for Sooryavanshi and Badoni
Soon after the squad announcement, Goenka took to social media to celebrate the selection of Sooryavanshi and Badoni. He highlighted the teenager's rapid rise in the cricketing world. "Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's selection for the India A squad should be celebrated for many reasons, the biggest one being how far this young man has come in such a short time. From his IPL debut last year to scoring 175 in the U19 World Cup final and being named Player of the Tournament, the country has been watching with awe," Goenka wrote.
He added: "In just a year, he has shown incredible talent, fearlessness and the hunger to keep getting better. Delighted to also see Ayush Badoni in the squad. Congratulations to both. Make India proud."
Young Stars Rewarded
At just 15 years old, Sooryavanshi has become one of the brightest young talents in domestic cricket since making his IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals. His aggressive batting style and stellar performances at the youth level made him a standout pick for the India A squad. Badoni, meanwhile, has been a consistent performer for Lucknow Super Giants and now has another opportunity to push for senior national selection.
