In Vadodara, a unique photographic tribute to the triumphant journey of Indian women cricketers is currently captivating audiences. Abhilasha Agrawal, the only woman photographer from Gujarat who chronicled the Indian women's cricket team's ODI World Cup championship victory, is showcasing those defining moments through a special photo exhibition in the city.
The Dreamcatchers: From Grit to Glory
Agrawal has organised a two-day exhibition titled 'The Dreamcatchers: From Grit to Glory' at Art District, Alembic City in Vadodara. The exhibition was inaugurated on Wednesday by Pranav Amin, managing director of Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and Sargam Gupta, chairman and managing director of BRG Group.
Capturing the Spirit of Champions
Speaking about her work, Agrawal told TOI: "The exhibition captures the spirit of Indian women cricketers who went on to win the World Cup despite the initial setbacks. Each image is a testament to perseverance and passion."
The exhibition features a total of 148 photographs of various sizes, each carefully selected to represent different aspects of the team's journey. These images document not just the final victory but the entire path that led to that historic moment.
A Decade-Long Journey with the Team
What makes this exhibition particularly significant is Agrawal's extensive history with the Indian women's cricket team. She has followed the team for over a dozen years, capturing their journey across:
- 10 World Cups
- Multiple Asia Cups
- Numerous international tournaments
Her dedication to documenting women's cricket reached a milestone when she became the first woman photographer from India to be officially appointed by the Asian Cricket Council for the 2016 Asia Cup. Since that appointment, she has travelled extensively with the Indian team, documenting their on-field achievements through her lens.
