Delhi Traffic Police Issues Comprehensive Advisory for T20 World Cup Match
The Delhi Traffic Police has released a detailed traffic advisory in anticipation of the upcoming T20 World Cup cricket match between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The high-profile encounter is scheduled to take place at the historic Arun Jaitley Stadium, formerly known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, on Sunday. To ensure security and facilitate smooth movement for both spectators and general commuters, special traffic arrangements will be implemented across central Delhi from noon until 10 pm.
Key Traffic Restrictions and Diversions
According to the official advisory, traffic diversions and restrictions will be actively enforced on several major roads. Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Marg will see significant adjustments as required throughout the day. Heavy vehicles will face a complete ban from operating between Daryaganj and Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, as well as from Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali Road.
Commuters are strongly advised to avoid the following routes to prevent delays:
- JLN Marg from Rajghat to Delhi Gate up to the Kamla Market roundabout on both carriageways
- Asaf Ali Road between Turkman Gate and Delhi Gate
- Bahadurshah Zafar Marg from Delhi Gate to Ramcharan Aggarwal Chowk
Stadium Access and Parking Information
The match is set to begin at 3 pm, and spectators should plan their arrival carefully. Entry to gates 1 to 8 on the southern side of the stadium will be exclusively through Bahadurshah Zafar Marg. For gates 10 to 15 on the eastern side, access will be via JLN Marg near the Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal. Gates 16 to 18 on the western side will also have entry from Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, specifically near the petrol pump.
Free parking facilities will be available at designated locations including Mata Sundari Road, Rajghat Power House Road, and Velodrome Road. Additionally, a convenient park-and-ride service will operate from these points directly to the stadium. However, general public parking near the stadium will be strictly prohibited, with exceptions made only for a limited number of vehicles displaying valid parking labels.
Visitors with parking permits must ensure that labels are clearly displayed on their windscreens, mentioning both the vehicle number and the mobile number of the driver or owner. Vehicles without valid labels will not be permitted in the stadium vicinity. Designated parking areas for labelled vehicles include:
- P-1 at JP Park opposite Gate No 3
- P-2 at Vikram Nagar Parking near Shahidi Park
- P-3 for two-wheelers near the JJB/Prayas office
- P-4 at GLNS School near JJB-Prayas office
Entry to these parking zones will be accessible from the Vikram Nagar cut on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg near Shahidi Park.
Additional Commuter Guidelines and Enforcement
Passengers travelling to or from New Delhi Railway Station are urged to plan their journeys well in advance due to anticipated heavy traffic congestion on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and at ITO Chowk. To further manage the flow, no vehicles will be allowed to park on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg, and Ring Road between Rajghat and the I.P. Flyover on either carriageway on match day. Violators will face strict penalties, including towing and prosecution, as confirmed by police authorities.
For those using app-based taxi services, designated pick-up and drop-off points have been established at Gate No. 2 near Maulana Azad Medical College on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg (ITO–Delhi Gate carriageway) and at Rajghat Chowk. These measures aim to streamline operations and minimize disruptions during this major sporting event.
