Boy Killed, Another Injured in Lightning Strike in Jharkhand

A tragic incident occurred in Ghoskedih village on the border of Koderma and Giridih districts in Jharkhand, where a 10-year-old boy was killed and a 13-year-old suffered burn injuries after being struck by lightning while plucking berries on Saturday.

Victims Identified

The deceased has been identified as Abhineet Kumar, son of farmer Prakash Kumar Yadav. Abhineet was a Class 7 student at the local village school and is survived by two brothers and two sisters. The injured boy is Satish Yadav, son of Mahesh Yadav.

Incident Details

According to Abhineet’s mother, Munni Devi, her son had just returned from school in the afternoon. “He did not even change his school uniform before heading out with his friends to gather fruit from a nearby tree. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the area, severely injuring both Abhineet and Satish,” she said.

Family members rushed to the spot and immediately transported the boys to the community health centre at Markachho in Koderma. While Satish’s condition improved after receiving treatment, Abhineet’s condition deteriorated, and he was referred to Sadar hospital in Koderma, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Community in Mourning

The village is in shock following the sudden loss of the young boy. Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during such weather conditions.
