On June 23, a technical glitch on Namma Metro's Purple Line brought services to a halt between MG Road and Magadi Road, triggering chaos for thousands of commuters during the evening rush hour. The disruption began around 6:30 pm, initially suspending trains between MG Road and Magadi Road, and later extending to the section between Indiranagar and Magadi Road.
Impact on Commuters
Passengers were stranded at multiple stations, including MG Road, Indiranagar, and Magadi Road. Many took to social media to express frustration, with reports of long queues at bus stops and auto-rickshaw stands as commuters sought alternative transport. One passenger, Ravi Kumar, said, "I was stuck at MG Road for over an hour with no updates. The lack of communication from officials made it worse."
Technical Details
According to a Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) official, the glitch was traced to a signaling system failure near the Majestic interchange station. Engineers worked to resolve the issue, but services were only fully restored around 9:00 pm. BMRCL apologized for the inconvenience and said a detailed investigation would be conducted.
Previous Incidents
This is not the first time the Purple Line has faced technical problems. In March 2026, a similar signaling issue caused delays of up to 45 minutes. The Purple Line, which connects Baiyappanahalli to Mysore Road, is one of Bengaluru's busiest metro corridors, carrying over 200,000 passengers daily.
