Ludhiana's Shastri Badminton Hall Undergoes Major Renovation to Boost Sports Infrastructure

In a significant move to enhance sports infrastructure in Ludhiana, the Shastri badminton hall located at the Guru Nanak Stadium has been comprehensively renovated with state-of-the-art facilities. This initiative aims to provide athletes with improved training environments and promote sports participation across the district.

Key Upgrades and Funding Details

The renovation project, with an estimated total cost of around Rs 18-20 lakh, was made possible through a funding grant provided by the district administration and Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, IAS. This financial support underscores a dedicated effort to encourage more athletes by offering better training facilities.

Installation of New Badminton Mats: As part of the renovation, three new honed BWF-approved synthetic badminton mats have been installed at the courts. These mats, which cost approximately Rs 8 lakh, are designed to meet international standards, ensuring that athletes can train on high-quality surfaces. The District Sports Officer, Kuldeep Chugh, confirmed that such mats are typically replaced every ten to twelve years, addressing concerns raised by daily practitioners about the previous conditions.

Additional Facilities for Athletes

Beyond the new mats, the Shastri badminton hall now features several other amenities to support athletes:

  • A dedicated gym area within the hall for warm-up sessions before games.
  • New changing rooms and washrooms for added convenience.
  • Installation of new exhaust fans to manage weather conditions and improve ventilation.

These enhancements are expected to create a more comfortable and functional environment for training and competitions.

Official Statements and Future Plans

Kuldeep Chugh, District Sports Officer, highlighted the significance of this development in a statement to TOI. He emphasized that the upgrade was facilitated by the generous support of Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain, who allocated Rs 18 lakh for the hall's renovation and court replacements. Chugh noted that the civil work for the remaining facilities is projected to be completed within three weeks, ensuring the hall is fully operational with all new amenities.

This renovation not only modernizes the Shastri badminton hall but also aligns with broader goals to foster sports excellence in Ludhiana, providing athletes with resources that meet global benchmarks.
