In a stunning display of skill and composure, Nagpur's table tennis prodigy Jennifer Varghese secured three gold medals at the ITTF-ATTU South Asia Youth Table Tennis Championships held in Shimla on Saturday. The 17-year-old paddler attributed her success to a relaxed "Take It Easy Policy," which allowed her to perform at her peak without the pressure of pre-set targets.
Triple Gold Haul in Under-19 Category
Jennifer Varghese dominated the Under-19 category, winning gold in girls' singles, mixed doubles, and contributing to the Indian Under-19 Girls' team victory. Her flawless performance helped India finish at the top with 8 points, as she won all her matches throughout the event.
"Representing India in the South Asian Youth Championship is a tremendous honor," Jennifer told reporters after her triumphant outing. "I didn't set any specific goals before the competition. My strategy was simply to enjoy the experience and learn from it. Winning three gold medals feels like a dream come true."
Comeback Victory in Girls' Singles Final
The girls' singles final presented an early challenge for Jennifer, as she lost the first game 7-11 to fellow Indian Ananya Muralidharan. However, she demonstrated remarkable resilience, reminding herself to "hold your nerves and stick to basics." This mindset proved crucial as she turned the match around, winning the next three games 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 to claim the gold.
"My plan was to keep fighting, and that approach helped me immensely," Jennifer explained. "The outcome exceeded all my expectations—it turned out much better than I could have ever planned."

In the Under-19 mixed doubles event, Jennifer partnered with Priyanuj Bhattacharyya to secure another gold medal with a straight-game victory over the Maldivian pair of Mohammed Rafiu and Fathimath Ali. The Indian duo won convincingly with scores of 12-10, 11-2, 11-5.
Jennifer, who has been training in Chennai for the past five years, also played a pivotal role in the Indian Under-19 Girls' team, which maintained a perfect record to clinch the team gold. Her contributions were instrumental in India's overall dominance at the championships.
