Two Teenage Athletes Found Dead in SAI Hostel Room
Police discovered two teenage female athletes dead in their Sports Authority of India hostel room on Thursday morning. The tragic incident occurred at the SAI facility in Kerala.
Identities of the Deceased
Authorities identified the victims as 18-year-old Sandra A from Kozhikode's Chaliyam district and 15-year-old Vyshnavi V from Muthakkal in Thiruvananthapuram district. Sandra trained in athletics while Vyshnavi played kabaddi.
Sandra attended higher secondary school in her second year. Vyshnavi studied in Class 10. Both girls lived at the SAI hostel for two years before their deaths.
Discovery of the Tragedy
Other hostel residents noticed the missing athletes during morning practice around 5 AM. The girls failed to appear for their scheduled training session.
Hostel staff knocked repeatedly on the door without response. They eventually forced entry into room 21 on the top floor.
Inside, they found both teenagers hanging from ceiling fans. Each girl used a bedsheet for the hanging. Vyshnavi hung near the door while Sandra was elsewhere in the same room.
Police Investigation Details
Kollam East police station registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials confirmed the ongoing investigation.
Kollam City Police Commissioner Kiran Narayanan stated the reason for the act remains unconfirmed. Police continue their probe into the circumstances.
Investigators noted Vyshnavi normally occupied a different room. She stayed with Sandra on Wednesday night. Fellow trainees last saw both athletes around 12:30 AM.
Police found no suicide note at the scene. They plan to record statements from trainers, relatives, and other hostel athletes.
Authorities will analyze mobile phones belonging to the deceased girls. Post-mortem examinations are currently underway.

The SAI centre official filed a First Information Report about the incident. Sports Authority of India confirmed registration of the case.
"SAI cooperates fully with the investigation," police reported. The organization works closely with investigating authorities.
Police will release the bodies to families after completing necessary procedures. The community mourns the loss of two promising young athletes.
