Supreme Court Seeks Response from Rajasthan on Asaram's Plea
The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the Rajasthan government regarding self-styled godman Asaram Bapu's plea seeking suspension of his life sentence in a 2013 rape case. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia stated that it would consider granting bail only if there is any grave health condition.
Asaram, who is currently serving a life sentence in Jodhpur Central Jail, had filed the plea through his legal team, citing his advanced age of 85 years and various health ailments. The court directed the state government to file a response within four weeks.

The case dates back to 2013 when a 16-year-old girl alleged that Asaram sexually assaulted her at his ashram in Jodhpur. She was a disciple at the ashram.
