Sophia Flörsch Joins Opel as Test and Development Driver for Formula E GEN4 Era

Formula E is poised for a significant evolution with the introduction of its next-generation GEN4 cars, and this transformation will be bolstered by the arrival of a new team and a promising young driver. Opel is set to enter the championship as the latest constructor, and they have officially announced 25-year-old German racer Sophia Flörsch as their Test and Development Driver for the upcoming season.

A Versatile Racing Background

Sophia Flörsch brings a wealth of experience from various racing disciplines to her new role. She made history as the youngest winner in the British Ginetta Junior Championship and has since demonstrated her prowess in German Formula 4 and the FIA Formula 3 Championship. Her versatility extends to endurance racing, where she has achieved notable success in the European Le Mans Series and the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. Additionally, Flörsch has competed in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), showcasing her adaptability across different formats.

Flörsch's Enthusiasm for the Challenge

Expressing her excitement about joining Opel, Flörsch stated, "Formula E is currently the toughest racing series in the world, and that is exactly where Opel and I are now competing together. The fact that a brand with 125 years of motorsport DNA is now stepping into a world championship is impressive. As a German driver, being part of this factory team is more than a privilege for me."

She will make her first appearance with the team later this month when Opel showcases its GEN4 car in France on May 21-22. Flörsch praised the new vehicle, saying, "The GEN4 car is a thoroughbred race car: over 800 hp, all-wheel drive, ultra-fast. I cannot wait to work closely with the engineers, understand this car and get the maximum out of it. Together, we want to show what true teamwork can achieve – delivering sporting success and winning the hearts of motorsport fans for Opel and Formula E."

Opel's Strategic Vision

Opel Team Principal Jorg Schrott emphasized the significance of Flörsch's signing, highlighting her technical acumen and alignment with the team's goals. He explained, "With Sophia's signing, we at Opel are sending a clear signal for the consistent promotion of young talent in electric motorsport. Her precise technical feedback, as well as her analytical approach in the simulator and on track, will play an essential role in the further development of our GEN4 package."

Schrott added, "At the same time, her fresh approach fits perfectly with our 'OMG! GSE' campaign, through which we present the emotional side of our all-electric high-performance models. We are combining targeted talent development with high sporting standards, thereby strengthening the visibility of a new generation in motorsport that blends performance with public presence."

This move marks a pivotal moment for both Flörsch and Opel as they prepare to navigate the competitive landscape of Formula E, leveraging cutting-edge technology and youthful energy to make their mark in the evolving world of electric racing.
