Punjab's Gurpreet Singh Kamow Cycles 1.5 Lakh Km in 6 Years, Enters Record Books
Punjab cyclist Gurpreet Kamow enters India & Asia Book of Records

In the heart of Punjab's Faridkot district, a 43-year-old man has turned his passion for cycling into an extraordinary tale of endurance and inspiration. Gurpreet Singh Kamow, a resident of Kotkapura, has officially pedaled his way into the record books by covering a staggering 1.5 lakh kilometers on his bicycle over six years.

From Daily Grind to Record-Breaking Feat

Gurpreet's most remarkable achievement is a breathtaking endurance challenge that captured national attention. Between June 8 and September 15, 2020, he cycled an incredible 100 kilometers every single day for 100 consecutive days. This superhuman display of consistency and stamina earned him a prestigious double honor: a place in both the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records in early 2021.

"It was never about fame — it was about testing my limits and inspiring others," says Gurpreet, a proud member of the Kotkapura Cycle Riders (KCR) Club. His journey, however, extends far beyond this one challenge. His dedication has taken him to over four dozen competitions, where he has bagged prestigious titles including Super Randonneur and the Star Independent Award, along with the Bharatiya Ratna Award from USIS Company.

Overcoming Obstacles with Unbreakable Spirit

Gurpreet's path has not been without significant hurdles. Just two years ago, a motorcycle accident left him with a fractured hand. For most, this would mean a complete halt. But for Gurpreet, it was merely a detour. "I couldn't cycle for two months, so I switched to walking. I even walked 85 km in a single day during a competition," he recalls with a determined smile.

His daily routine is a testament to his discipline. On most days, Gurpreet begins pedaling at 4 am, covering 40–60 km before sunrise, often accompanied by fellow KCR members. Foggy Punjabi mornings do not deter him; they only add to the challenge. His life philosophy is simple and powerful: consistency beats excuses.

Balancing Passion, Business, and Family

Gurpreet seamlessly balances his intense cycling regimen with running a printing press business and his family life. His daughter studies in Canada and his son is in school, yet his focus on fitness remains unwavering. "Cycling keeps me grounded and healthy. It's my meditation," he shares, highlighting the mental and physical synergy he achieves through the sport.

His achievements have now received formal recognition from the state's leadership. On Monday, Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan honoured Gurpreet for his incredible accomplishments, calling him "an inspiration for the youth." Sandhwan urged people to adopt cycling and walking for a healthier lifestyle, emphasizing that Gurpreet's story powerfully demonstrates how sheer determination can transform ordinary daily routines into extraordinary milestones.

From the quiet streets of Kotkapura to the pages of international record books, Gurpreet Singh Kamow's journey stands as a powerful testament to grit, resilience, and the transformative power of passion. For him, every kilometer cycled is not just a number—it's a story of perseverance, inspiring a community and a state to move forward, one pedal stroke at a time.
