Panchkula Golf League Season 2 Begins with 256 Players

Panchkula Golf League Season 2 Commences with Expanded Participation

The highly anticipated second edition of the Panchkula Golf League officially teed off today, February 4, 2026, at the prestigious Panchkula Golf Club in Sector 3. Building on the success of its inaugural season, this year's tournament promises enhanced competition and broader engagement within the golfing community. The event will run through February 22, offering nearly three weeks of thrilling golf action.

Enhanced Team Structure and Tournament Format

This season marks a significant evolution in the league's structure. While the inaugural edition featured 16 teams with 14 players each, the current edition has expanded to include 16 teams, each comprising 16 players. This increase brings the total participant count to an impressive 256 golfers, all drawn from the club's membership.

The tournament format has been meticulously designed to ensure competitive fairness and excitement. The 16 teams have been divided into two distinct groups. Within each group, teams will compete against every other team in a comprehensive round-robin format. This stage will determine which teams advance to the knockout rounds, with the top four teams from each group qualifying based on their cumulative stableford points.

Mandatory Player Selections and Team Composition Rules

A unique aspect of the Panchkula Golf League is its emphasis on inclusive participation. Each team is required to include one senior member aged 70 years or older and one lady golfer as mandatory selections. This rule ensures diversity and representation across different demographics within the sport.

Team composition follows specific guidelines to maintain competitive balance. Teams are allowed a maximum of three players from the handicap range of 1-9, ensuring that highly skilled golfers are distributed evenly. Each team selects ten players directly from a provided list, while the remaining six players are acquired through a strategic auction process based on points, adding an element of team management and strategy to the league.

Official Statements and Tournament Vision

Digraj Singh, the tournament director, elaborated on the format during the league's press conference. "With the first season of the Panchkula Golf League being conducted with success, this year's edition will see 16 teams with 16 players each. The format involves teams divided into two groups competing in the individual stableford format, where player scores contribute to team totals. The top four teams from each group, based on cumulative stableford points from all round-robin matches, will qualify for the knockout rounds, starting with quarter-finals played in the four-ball better ball matchplay format," he explained.

B Chandra Sekhar, IPS (Retd), Co-Chairman of the Organising Committee, highlighted the league's broader objectives. "The Panchkula Golf League was envisioned as a platform that strengthens competitive golf while fostering camaraderie and sporting values. The second edition reflects a natural progression, with greater depth, wider participation, and a format that tests skill, discipline, and teamwork. We see the League as an important contributor to the region's sporting ecosystem," he stated.

Participating Teams and Weather Considerations

The league features a diverse array of teams, including defending champions Highland Kings, ADS Falcons, Clubs on Flames, GB Legends, Green Warriors, Shivalik Swingers, Sneakin Golfers, Tee Titans, Fantastic Fours, Golfing Eagles, Golfing Panthers, Hansa Legends, Par-Tee Crashers, Raging Bulls, Tee Birds, and Victory Waves.

Weather conditions may play a role, as fog enveloped Panchkula on Tuesday, potentially affecting some match days. When questioned about the timing and course conditions, Sekhar noted that the winter schedule was optimal for hosting the league. "The Chandigarh Golf League happens in September-October, and we could not hold our league at that time. Hence, this period suited the club more. The course is in good shape, approximately 80 percent, and players will enjoy the league," he assured.

As the Panchkula Golf League enters its second season, it stands as a testament to the growing popularity of golf in the region, offering a structured platform for competition, community building, and the celebration of sporting excellence.
