Panchkula Golf League Season 2 Set to Commence with Expanded Format

The picturesque Panchkula Golf Club is gearing up to host the much-anticipated second edition of the Panchkula Golf League (PGL), scheduled to tee off on February 4. This premier team golf competition will feature 16 formidable teams, each comprising 16 skilled golfers, battling it out across an engaging two-stage format that will culminate on February 22 with the championship finals and prize distribution ceremony.

Tournament Format and Competitive Structure

The league will unfold with an intensive round-robin phase running from February 4 to 17, where teams will compete in the individual Stableford format. Team standings will be determined by cumulative scores throughout this initial stage, testing both individual skill and collective consistency. Following this, the competition intensifies as the top four teams from each group advance to the high-stakes knockout stage.

The knockout phase introduces a strategic shift to the four-ball better-ball matchplay format, where tactical partnerships and team coordination become paramount. The tournament climax will occur on February 22 with both the championship final and the third-place playoff, followed by a celebratory prize-distribution ceremony honoring the season's standout performers.

Inclusive Team Composition and Competitive Philosophy

Building on the success of its inaugural season, the Panchkula Golf League continues its commitment to inclusive competition through carefully designed team composition rules. Each participating team must include:

  • At least one woman golfer
  • A senior player above 70 years of age
  • Representation across defined handicap categories

This thoughtful structure ensures competitive balance while promoting diversity and accessibility within the sport. B Chandra Sekhar, co-chairman of the organizing committee, emphasized that the event aims to foster not just competitive excellence but also camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants.

Tournament director Digraj Singh elaborated on the format's design philosophy, noting that it specifically rewards consistency, strategic thinking, and teamwork rather than relying solely on individual brilliance. This approach creates a more dynamic and engaging competition that tests multiple dimensions of golfing excellence.
