In a remarkable display of endurance and historical tribute, a team of twelve National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from Maharashtra's Amravati division has embarked on an epic cycling journey to Delhi. This expedition is part of their participation in the prestigious PM Rally scheduled for January 2026.
A Rigorous Selection for a Historic Journey
The team, comprising six boys and six girls, was chosen after a stringent selection process that rigorously tested their fitness and endurance levels. The expedition was officially flagged off from the historic Delhi Darwaja of Shaniwarwada in Pune at 9 AM on December 24. The ceremony marked the beginning of a challenging 21-day adventure covering a staggering distance of 1,680 kilometers.
Retracing the Steps of a Legendary Warrior
The cycling route is not just a test of physical stamina but a journey through history. The cadets are traveling along the same path taken by the great Maratha warrior, Peshwa Bajirao I, during his northward expansion of the Maratha Empire between 1736 and 1737. The primary aim of this arduous ride is to spread awareness about this legendary figure and his historic campaign.
Beyond the historical tribute, the cadets' journey carries a powerful contemporary message of 'unity and national integration'. The expedition is led by Brigadier Sachin Gawali, the Group Commander of NCC Group, Amravati, and seconded by instructor Havildar Tika Ram Pun from the 13 Maharashtra Battalion NCC.
The Road to Delhi and Logistical Support
The cycling team will traverse through five states: Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, before their final destination—the national capital, Delhi. They are scheduled to reach on January 16, 2026, in time for the PM Rally.
Ensuring a smooth journey, the entire expedition is being supported by a dedicated administration and coordination team. This crucial logistical backbone is led by Colonel Vijay Shukla, VSM, the Commanding Officer of the 11 Maharashtra Battalion NCC.
This unique initiative by the Maharashtra NCC Directorate brilliantly blends physical challenge with historical education and a patriotic mission, preparing young cadets for a grand national event while honoring India's rich heritage.
