Komalika Bari Intensifies Training for Asian Games 2026 Selection Trials
Raipur is currently hosting the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games, where Jamshedpur archer Komalika Bari is sharpening her skills with a clear focus on the upcoming 2026 Asian Games selection trials. The 24-year-old recurve archer from Jharkhand, who made history as the second Indian woman to simultaneously hold World Cadet and World Junior titles, remains a prominent figure in India's archery scene despite facing challenges on the senior circuit.
Strategic Preparation and Mental Conditioning
Selected among the top 16 archers at the national coaching camp in Pune, Bari is dedicating her efforts to refining technical aspects and enhancing mental resilience for high-pressure competitions. "I am preparing seriously for the Asian Games selection," she stated. "My goal is to accumulate as much experience as possible by participating in numerous events while strictly adhering to my training regimen." Her ultimate ambition extends to securing a spot at the 2028 Olympics, driving her rigorous preparation.
Humble Beginnings and Inspirational Journey
Bari's archery journey commenced at the age of 12 in Birsanagar, where she initially trained with a bamboo bow due to her family's financial constraints in 2012, which prevented access to professional equipment. Her perseverance has led her to match the achievement of Deepika Kumari, who accomplished a similar feat in 2021, highlighting the importance of mental toughness in overcoming performance slumps.
Current Competitions and Past Achievements
At the Khelo India Tribal Games in Raipur, Bari is actively competing across multiple formats:
- Individual events
- Team events
- Mixed-team events
Her track record includes a silver medal from the 2020 Khelo India University Games, underscoring her competitive prowess. As she navigates these tournaments, Bari continues to build her profile as a key contender for India in international archery, balancing immediate goals with long-term Olympic aspirations.
