India Secures 2030 Commonwealth Games Hosting Rights in Ahmedabad
President Droupadi Murmu announced on Wednesday that India has successfully secured the hosting rights for the prestigious 2030 Commonwealth Games. This landmark achievement was revealed during her address to a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament at the commencement of the Budget Session.
Confidence and Preparedness Key to Victory
President Murmu attributed this significant win to India's growing confidence and exceptional preparedness on the global sporting stage. She emphasized that the decision reflects the nation's enhanced capabilities and strategic vision in international sports management.
The Games will be hosted in Ahmedabad, a city that is simultaneously pursuing an ambitious bid to host the Olympic Games in 2036. This dual aspiration underscores Gujarat's emergence as a premier destination for world-class sporting events.

Murmu highlighted that India's expanding role as a host for major international sporting competitions mirrors the profound transformations implemented within the country's sports system over the past decade. She credited these changes to comprehensive reforms across all sports-related institutions.
"Through the combined efforts of India's youth and my government, the country is also witnessing unprecedented development in sports," President Murmu stated during her parliamentary address. She detailed how systematic reforms have revitalized every aspect of sports administration in India.

The President specifically mentioned the formulation of the Khelo India policy as a cornerstone initiative that has brought transparency and efficiency to sports institutions. This national program has been instrumental in identifying and nurturing athletic talent across the country.
Additionally, the introduction of the National Sports Governance Act under Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has strengthened financial and administrative oversight of sports federations. These legislative measures have created a more accountable and professional sports governance framework.

In her address, President Murmu took the opportunity to congratulate India's women's cricket team for their historic World Cup victory in November last year. She also praised the blind women's cricket team for securing their own World Cup title just weeks later.
"The way the performance of our daughters and divyang fellow citizens has improved, is truly remarkable," Murmu expressed with evident pride. "India's women's cricket team has won the World Cup for the first time. Similarly, the Blind women's cricket team has also won the World Cup. I extend my heartiest congratulations to my daughters."
