Goa Set to Host Inaugural Formula Street Race Weekend at Manohar International Airport
The Indian Racing Festival is poised to make history as it brings its high-octane Formula Street Race Weekend to Goa for the very first time. This groundbreaking event, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, will take place at the Manohar International Airport in Mopa, serving as Round 4 of the championship. As India's exclusive four-wheel racing league and the world's pioneering gender-neutral championship, the IRF combines franchise ownership with fan-driven energy to foster a unique blend of inclusivity, speed, and spectacle.
Innovative Street Circuit Design for Thrilling Competition
The race will unfold on a meticulously crafted FIA-grade street circuit spanning 2.064 kilometres. Featuring 12 turns integrated into the airport's expansive layout, the track is engineered to promote close racing, late braking maneuvers, and constant position battles. This design is expected to deliver an intense weekend of competition, setting a new standard for motorsport events in the region.
Goa's Strategic Role as a Premier Host Destination
Akhilesh Reddy, chairman of the Indian Racing Festival, emphasized Goa's suitability for this marquee event. "Goa's cosmopolitan character, excellent connectivity, and status as a year-round leisure hotspot make it the perfect host for a premier motorsport occasion," he stated. "By hosting this round, we aim to merge elite racing with mainstream lifestyle appeal while highlighting Goa on the global sporting calendar." Reddy, who has been deeply involved in planning the street circuit, noted that transforming roads into a competitive venue required meticulous coordination, with safety as a top priority.
Comprehensive Safety Measures and Infrastructure
The circuit has been developed with FIA-standard temporary infrastructure to ensure maximum safety. This includes reinforced barriers, advanced crash protection systems, dedicated medical and rescue teams, and comprehensive safety protocols for drivers, teams, and spectators. Rigorous pre-event testing and continuous monitoring during race days will uphold world-class safety standards throughout the weekend, as confirmed by Reddy.
Beyond Racing: A Lifestyle Experience for Fans
Organizers have highlighted that this first-of-its-kind event in Goa transcends traditional racing. It is designed as a comprehensive lifestyle experience, featuring music performances, interactive fan zones, and immersive brand activations. Fans will enjoy unprecedented access, including pit-lane glimpses, bringing them closer to the sport than in most conventional formats.
