Formula E Teams Reveal Miami Rookie Practice Drivers

Several prominent Formula E teams have officially announced their selected participants for the upcoming Miami Rookie Free Practice session scheduled for January 30. This event provides a crucial platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills on the international stage.

Lola Yamaha ABT Confirms Hugh Barter for Miami FP0

Lola Yamaha ABT has confirmed that their simulator test driver, Hugh Barter, will take the wheel for the team during the Miami Rookie Free Practice. Barter aims to leverage his extensive experience from the Formula E simulator directly onto the track as he pilots the Lola car at this significant event.

Notably, Barter is already familiar with the GEN3 Evo vehicle, having previously driven it during the Berlin Rookie Test in 2023 and again in 2025. This prior exposure positions him well to maximize his performance and contribution during the Miami session.

Barter's Enthusiasm and Team Support

Expressing his delight at securing this opportunity, Barter shared with FormulaE.com, "It's a privilege to continue to work with Lola Yamaha ABT on development for both the current Formula E car and the GEN4 car that will be competing from next season. Taking part in Rookie Free Practice is a great opportunity for me and I'm looking forward to once again getting behind the wheel of the Lola T001 and translating everything we've achieved in the sim to the track."

Team Principal Mark Preston also commented on Barter's selection, stating, "We are very pleased that Hugh is returning to the track with Lola Yamaha ABT. He has provided invaluable feedback both in the sim and behind the wheel of the GEN4 car we are currently developing, so we look forward to getting additional input from him in Miami while giving him crucial development time on track."

Andretti Fields Dennis Hauger for the Miami Session

Andretti has announced that their INDY NXT driver, Dennis Hauger, will participate in the Miami Rookie Free Practice. The 22-year-old Norwegian driver brings a impressive racing pedigree to the event, having been crowned the 2021 Formula 3 champion and securing five victories in Formula 2 competitions.

Hauger is no stranger to Formula E cars, having previously driven one during the 2024 Berlin Rookie Test. This year marks a significant transition for him as he prepares to embark on his debut season in IndyCar, following his triumph in the 2025 Firestone Indy NXT Series.

Skill Development and Track Experience

Both Barter and Hauger possess prior experience driving the GEN3 Evo on track, and they plan to utilize this Miami session to refine and polish their skills behind the wheel. This practice offers them an invaluable chance to adapt to real-world racing conditions and enhance their technical capabilities.

The Miami Rookie Free Practice serves as a strategic opportunity for teams to evaluate new talent and for drivers to gain essential track time, contributing to their overall development in the competitive world of electric motorsport.
